On Monday, 42-year-old Konstantin Koltsov, a former professional hockey player from Belarus, was discovered dead at a hotel in Miami, Florida.
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) presently ranks Sabalenka as the number two player in the world. Sabalenka is in the city and will play her first match in the Miami Open on Friday.
It is said that she still plans to compete in the competition.
“According to investigators, on Monday, 18 March, at approximately 12.39am, Bal Harbour Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to the St Regis Bal Harbour Resort,” the Miami-Dade Police Department stated in a statement.
“The Homicide Bureau of the Miami-Dade Police Department responded and assumed control of the investigation into Mr. Konstantin Koltsov’s apparent suicide. There is no suspicion of foul play.
The Russian hockey team Salavat Yulaev, where Mr. Koltsov played and later served as an assistant coach, made the announcement of his passing.
