North American Free Trade Deal Faces Uncertain Future as USMCA Review Deadline Arrives The United States, Canada, and Mexico have reached a key milestone in the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). However, trade officials are not expected to finalize any major decisions on the July 1 deadline. Representatives from all three countries will hold formal discussions as part of the scheduled review process. While Canada and Mexico have publicly supported renewing the agreement, the United States has not yet announced its final position. Canada and Mexico Support the Trade Pact Canadian and Mexican leaders continue to back the USMCA, which serves as the foundation for trade across North America. The agreement supports businesses, workers, and industries that rely on cross-border commerce. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recently indicated that he does not expect a final agreement to emerge from the current round of discussions. Instead, negotiations are likely to continue in the coming weeks and months. Canadian officials remain focused on protecting domestic industries, workers, and farmers while maintaining strong trade relationships with neighboring countries. Trump's Position Creates Uncertainty US President Donald Trump has raised concerns about the future of the agreement. He recently suggested that the deal could expire and argued that the United States might benefit from pursuing alternative trade arrangements. His comments have increased uncertainty surrounding the review process. As a result, businesses and investors are closely monitoring developments between the three countries. Trade tensions have also intensified due to tariff disputes and retaliatory measures, making negotiations more challenging than many analysts originally expected. Why the USMCA Matters The USMCA replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) during Trump's first presidential term. Since then, it has played a vital role in supporting economic cooperation across North America. The trade pact covers a market of approximately 510 million people and supports nearly $1.6 trillion in annual trade. It also strengthens major industries, including automotive manufacturing, agriculture, and energy production. Many companies depend on the agreement because it reduces trade barriers and helps products move efficiently across borders. Trade Talks Will Continue Beyond July 1 Despite the importance of the July 1 review deadline, all three governments expect negotiations to continue afterward. Officials from the United States and Mexico have already scheduled additional bilateral discussions later this month. Experts believe the review process could extend for several months before the countries reach a clear conclusion regarding the future of the agreement. For now, the USMCA remains in effect and continues to provide significant trade benefits throughout North America. What's Next for North American Trade? The coming months will play a critical role in shaping the future of regional trade. Canada and Mexico remain committed to preserving the agreement, while the United States continues to evaluate its options. Although the July 1 deadline marks an important stage in the review process, it is unlikely to produce an immediate outcome. Instead, ongoing negotiations will determine whether the USMCA continues in its current form or undergoes significant changes.

    # Who Could Be the UK's Next Chancellor? With Sir Keir Starmer stepping down, many political observers expect Andy Burnham to become the next UK prime minister. If Burnham takes office, attention will quickly turn to one of the most important positions in government: the chancellor. The next chancellor will inherit a challenging economic situation. Rising public debt, weak economic growth, welfare reform pressures, increased defence spending, and global uncertainty are all on the agenda. As a result, the choice could have a direct impact on businesses, investors, and households across the UK. ## Wes Streeting Emerges as the Leading Contender Many bookmakers currently see Wes Streeting as the frontrunner for the chancellor role. Streeting previously competed for the Labour leadership but later backed Burnham. His support has led to speculation that he could be rewarded with one of the most powerful jobs in government. However, not everyone supports that idea. Economist Lord Jim O'Neill has suggested that the role should go to the most qualified candidate rather than someone seeking recognition for political loyalty. Although Burnham and Streeting work within the same party, they often differ on economic priorities. Burnham generally supports higher public spending, while Streeting is viewed as more cautious on government finances. Economic analysts describe Streeting as relatively friendly to business and growth. Supporters believe he could reassure financial markets. Critics, however, argue that his long term political ambitions could create challenges in government. ## Ed Miliband Remains a Strong Alternative Another name frequently mentioned is Ed Miliband. The former Labour leader is considered politically closer to Burnham. Many experts believe that strong alignment between the prime minister and chancellor helps create stable economic policy. Miliband brings significant experience to the table. Supporters argue that he has the knowledge and authority needed to guide the economy through difficult times. Some economists believe he could win market confidence by presenting a clear and consistent financial strategy. Others remain concerned about his economic approach. ## Concerns Over Energy Policy Critics often link Miliband's strong support for net zero policies to Britain's relatively high energy costs. Because of this perception, some analysts fear financial markets could react cautiously if he became chancellor. Investors typically look for policies that support stable growth while keeping inflation under control. Miliband has also faced criticism from parts of the trade union movement. Opponents argue that restrictions on new oil and gas projects in the North Sea could limit job creation and investment opportunities. ## Major Challenges Await the Next Chancellor Regardless of who secures the position, the next chancellor will face a difficult task. The UK economy continues to struggle with slow growth and high government borrowing. At the same time, public services require additional funding, while defence spending demands continue to increase. Global tensions and uncertainty in international markets add further pressure. The next chancellor will need to balance economic growth, public spending, and financial stability while maintaining confidence among businesses and investors. ## Final Thoughts The race to become the UK's next chancellor is already attracting significant attention. Wes Streeting and Ed Miliband currently lead the discussion, but the final decision will likely depend on Andy Burnham's broader economic vision. Whoever takes the role will play a crucial part in shaping the UK's financial future during a period of significant economic and political change.

Tom Holland is stepping into a major new role with Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic film The Odyssey. The actor, famous worldwide for playing Spider Man, says this project feels like the beginning of a new stage in his life and career. Holland describes the opportunity as a "pinch me moment" as he takes on the role of Telemachus, the son of Odysseus from Greek mythology. The actor believes the character gives him a rare chance to explore the journey of a young man searching for his identity and his missing father. Tom Holland Plays Telemachus In Christopher Nolan's Epic Film In The Odyssey, Holland portrays Telemachus, the only son of the legendary hero Odysseus. Telemachus was very young when his father left to fight in the Trojan War. Because he grew up without Odysseus, he knows his father mainly through stories about his courage, intelligence, and victories. Holland says he connected with the character because Telemachus represents youth, growth, and the search for answers. The actor, now 30, explains that this role feels special because it may be one of his final opportunities to play a younger character. A New Experience Beyond Spider Man Although Holland became a global star through the Spider Man franchise, The Odyssey allows him to explore a different kind of character. The film shows Telemachus facing challenges inside his family's palace while trying to protect his mother Penelope from unwanted attention from powerful men known as the suitors. Holland shares the screen with a talented cast, including Anne Hathaway, who plays Penelope, the wife of Odysseus and mother of Telemachus. Zendaya Joins The Film As Goddess Athena Holland's wife, Zendaya, also appears in The Odyssey as Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. However, the couple does not share scenes together in the movie. Holland reveals that he read the script with Zendaya before production began. Later, when Christopher Nolan asked if he would be comfortable with Zendaya playing Athena, Holland supported the idea. He says the moment became a special memory for both of them. According to Holland, Zendaya reacted with a small smile before they both celebrated the news together. Tom Holland's Future With The Odyssey With The Odyssey, Tom Holland is moving beyond his superhero image and exploring a more mature acting challenge. The role of Telemachus represents a journey of family, identity, and personal growth. For Holland, the film marks an important turning point in his career and a memorable step into a new chapter.

Iran Revolution Anniversary Rallies in Tehran Marked by Loyalty and Growing Discontent Massive Turnout in Tehran for Revolution Anniversary Tehran’s streets filled with large crowds as Iran marked the final day of its Islamic Revolution anniversary celebrations. Supporters of the government gathered in the capital and other major cities in a strong public display of loyalty. Officials treated the rallies as a direct response to recent anti government protests. Families walked together under a warm winter sun. The atmosphere felt festive. Children waved Iranian flags. Many people carried posters of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” echoed through the streets, a familiar slogan at state organized events. The government’s most loyal supporters showed up in large numbers. Their presence sent a clear political message at a time when public frustration continues to grow over economic hardship. Support for the Revolution Still Runs Deep Many participants expressed strong pride in the 1979 revolution. A young woman wearing a long black veil described the revolution as a turning point for Iran. She said it revived the country and gave new life to society. In her view, its impact extended beyond Iran and influenced the wider Islamic world. Her words reflected a belief shared by many at the rally. For them, the revolution remains a source of identity and national strength. They see it as a symbol of independence and resistance against foreign influence. Acknowledging Economic Frustration At the same time, some supporters admitted that economic problems have caused real frustration. When asked about the recent protests, the young woman said that some people had valid concerns. She acknowledged that many Iranians struggle with rising prices and financial pressure. However, she drew a line between peaceful protest and unrest. She claimed that those who turned protests into chaos acted with motives linked to foreign actors. This argument mirrors the government’s stance. Officials often blame outside forces for fueling instability inside the country. Revolution Celebrations Overshadowed by Tension While the rallies projected unity and strength, they also highlighted divisions within Iranian society. The government aimed to show that it still commands strong public support. Yet the acknowledgment of economic dissatisfaction revealed deeper challenges. Iran continues to face international sanctions, inflation, and political pressure. These issues have sparked repeated protests in recent years. The anniversary events served both as a celebration and as a reminder of the tensions shaping the country today. As Iran reflects on decades since the revolution, the contrast between loyalty and defiance remains clear. Public celebrations showcased pride and commitment. But the undercurrent of economic frustration suggests that the conversation inside Iran is far from settled.

Extreme Cold in New York City Leaves 18 Dead as Temperatures Slowly Rise New York City is recovering after a severe cold wave claimed 18 lives. Officials confirmed that the extreme winter conditions, which began in late January, led to one of the longest freezing streaks the city has seen in decades. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the city faced 13 straight days of temperatures at or below 0C, a rare event not seen at this scale since 1963. Over the weekend, another person died on the streets, bringing the total number of deaths to 18. He called each loss a tragedy and urged residents to continue looking out for one another. Record Breaking Cold Snap Hits NYC The cold spell started on 19 January when the city announced a Code Blue emergency. This measure allowed homeless shelters to relax intake rules so more people could come inside and stay warm. Since then, officials have placed about 1,400 people into shelters. The city also added 64 hotel rooms to increase shelter space. Outreach teams expanded their efforts as well, with at least 150 additional workers sent onto the streets to assist vulnerable residents. Earlier reports confirmed that at least 10 victims were found outdoors. Authorities have not released full details about the remaining deaths. Although temperatures have started to rise, they remain below seasonal averages. The National Weather Service expects readings to hover around 0C this week. Normally, temperatures reach about 4C during this time of year. Dangerous Wind Chills and Ongoing Risks An Arctic air mass swept across the region over the weekend. It brought intense wind chills that made conditions feel even colder than the actual temperature. These conditions increased the risk of hypothermia and frostbite. While the 13 day freezing streak officially ended on Friday, the danger has not fully passed. Melting snow and ice may fall from rooftops without warning. Streets and sidewalks can refreeze overnight, creating hazardous walking and driving conditions. NYC Emergency Management continues to warn residents to remain cautious. City officials advise people to stay indoors whenever possible and check on elderly neighbors, homeless individuals, and anyone without reliable heating. Mayor Mamdani reminded residents that even 35 degrees Fahrenheit is far from warm. He emphasized that the city will continue working to protect New Yorkers during the remaining cold days.

Are Wetter Winters and Frequent Flooding in the UK the New Normal? Heavy rain has soaked the UK again. From Cornwall to County Down, many areas recorded their wettest January ever. February brought more downpours, adding pressure to already saturated ground. Weather experts say this may not be a one off event. Wetter winters are becoming more common across the UK. Why Is So Much Rain Falling? Meteorologists link the recent flooding to a blocked weather pattern. A high pressure system over Scandinavia has trapped storm systems over the UK. As a result, rain clouds cannot move away easily. But this pattern tells a bigger story. Climate change plays a key role. When we burn fossil fuels such as coal and oil, we release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat and warm the planet. Even small temperature increases matter. For every 1°C rise in global temperature, the atmosphere can hold about 7 percent more moisture. More moisture means heavier rainfall. This is one reason the UK now faces more intense winter rain than in the past. Wet Winters Are Becoming More Frequent The Met Office reports that six of the ten wettest winters in nearly 250 years happened during this century. That is a clear shift. In the past, winters like 2023 to 2024 occurred roughly once every 80 years. Today, they happen about once every 20 years. If global warming continues, these extreme wet winters could become even more common. Natural weather patterns still influence UK rainfall. However, long term data shows a steady trend toward wetter winters. Rising Sea Levels Increase the Risk Rain is not the only concern. Sea levels around the UK have risen by about 20 centimeters since 1901. Warmer oceans expand. Melting glaciers also add more water. This rise may sound small, but it increases flood risk. When storms hit during high tide, coastal communities face stronger tidal surges. The combination of heavy rain and rising seas makes flooding worse. Communities and Farmers Feel the Pressure Flood warnings continue across the country. At one point this week, more than 100 areas faced official alerts. The Environment Agency confirmed that over 300 homes flooded. Farmers are under severe strain. One Somerset farmer said he is living on a knife edge. His crops sit in floodwater and may rot within days. Flooding also disrupts transport, damages homes, and threatens food supply chains. Insurance costs may rise. Infrastructure faces growing pressure. Are These Wetter Winters Here to Stay? Climate projections suggest yes. Unless greenhouse gas emissions fall sharply, the UK will likely see more wet winters and frequent flooding. Scientists warn that warming will intensify rainfall patterns further. The key question is no longer whether winters are changing. The focus now shifts to how communities adapt.

Where to Elope in 2026: Why Couples Are Choosing Intimate Destination Weddings Elopements Are Redefining Modern Weddings Elopements are no longer secret ceremonies. In 2026, they are stylish, intentional, and often set in breathtaking destinations. More couples now choose private ceremonies over traditional weddings. Instead of large guest lists and formal venues, they travel to remote locations and exchange vows in peace. These celebrations feel personal and meaningful, not performative. A Real Couple, A Personal Choice When Zanthe and Mark Howell got engaged in 2024, they already knew what their wedding would look like. They planned to marry in the Scottish Highlands. No guests. No spotlight. Just the two of them. Zanthe says they never felt comfortable being the center of attention. A big wedding did not reflect who they were. For them, traveling somewhere remote felt symbolic. It marked the start of their shared life in a quiet and powerful way. Their story reflects a growing trend. Many couples now choose intimacy over tradition. Why Elopements Are Rising in 2026 Several factors drive this shift. First, wedding costs continue to climb. In 2026, the average wedding in the UK costs around £21,000. In the United States, couples spend about $36,000. Those numbers push many couples to reconsider. By comparison, a destination elopement typically costs between $2,500 and $8,000. That price range makes it far more accessible. Couples can invest in travel, photography, and a memorable experience instead of a single large event. Second, family expectations often add pressure. Some couples want freedom from complicated planning and outside opinions. Eloping allows them to focus on their relationship, not logistics. Third, many couples value experiences over tradition. They prefer adventure, travel, and meaningful moments. A ceremony in the mountains, by the sea, or in a quiet forest feels more authentic to them. Stunning Remote Locations Take Center Stage Today’s elopements take place in dramatic settings. Think rugged coastlines, wild highlands, desert landscapes, or hidden islands. These backdrops create unforgettable memories without the need for elaborate décor. Couples now treat their wedding as a shared adventure. They hike together. They explore new cultures. They celebrate in places that feel special to them. Instead of planning for hundreds of guests, they focus on each other. A Chic and Intentional Way to Marry Modern elopements are not rushed decisions. Couples plan them carefully. They hire photographers, choose meaningful outfits, and design ceremonies that reflect their values. What once felt secret now feels empowering. In 2026, eloping represents freedom, financial sense, and emotional clarity. It allows couples to begin marriage on their own terms.

Mushroom in China Causes Hallucinations of Tiny Humans Mysterious Mushroom in Yunnan In Yunnan Province, China, doctors see hundreds of patients each year reporting a strange symptom: visions of tiny, elf-like figures moving around their homes. These miniature beings appear under doors, crawl on walls, and cling to furniture. Researchers have traced these unusual hallucinations to Lanmaoa asiatica, a local mushroom. It grows near pine trees and is popular for its savory, umami flavor. People eat it at home, in restaurants, and in markets during peak season from June to August. The Importance of Cooking The hallucinations only occur if the mushroom is undercooked. At local hot pot restaurants, servers warn diners to wait until the cooking timer finishes. Colin Domnauer, a doctoral candidate studying this species, said, "It seems like very common knowledge in the culture there." A Rare Mystery Outside China Outside Yunnan, L. asiatica remains largely unknown. Giuliana Furci, founder of the Fungi Foundation, explained that many people had tried to find this psychedelic mushroom, but its existence remained elusive until recently. Domnauer is studying L. asiatica to understand the compound responsible for these unusual hallucinations and what it can teach us about the human brain. Historical Accounts Reports of L. asiatica date back decades. In 1991, researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences described cases where people saw “lilliputian hallucinations,” tiny human or fantasy figures, after eating the mushroom. They even noticed these visions on their clothing and dishes, and they became stronger when the eyes were closed. Similar experiences were documented in the 1960s in Papua New Guinea. Researchers Gordon Wasson and Roger Heim encountered stories of locals going “insane” after eating a mushroom. They sent samples to Albert Hofmann, the chemist who discovered LSD, but he found no active compounds. At the time, the phenomenon was dismissed as a cultural tale. Why Scientists Are Curious The consistent reports of hallucinatory visions across different regions and cultures make L. asiatica unique. Scientists hope that studying it can reveal not only the chemical responsible but also insights into human perception and the brain’s response to hallucinogens.

Joanna Page Remembers Mortifying Moment with Johnny Depp Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page recently opened up about a hilariously embarrassing moment with Johnny Depp on the podcast Happy Place, hosted by Fearne Cotton. Even though the incident happened over 25 years ago, the 48-year-old actor says she still cringes when she thinks about it. On the Set of From Hell Page was recalling her experience working on the 2001 film From Hell, based on the infamous Jack the Ripper murders. She played Ann Cook, a prostitute, and had a particularly intense scene where her character had just undergone a lobotomy. To get into character, she wore a bald cap and white contact lenses. While squatting on the floor during the scene, she accidentally passed gas in front of Depp, who played lead investigator Fredrick Abberline. A Silent but Deadly Moment "It was a silent but deadly fart," Page admitted. Depp immediately reacted, saying, "Oh my god, who’s farted?" Mortified, Page didn’t confess right away. Instead, she looked around and jokingly asked, "Oh, who’s done that?" She laughed at herself, admitting she should have simply said, "Me! I’m acting like I’ve had a lobotomy, sorry guys, I’ve just farted." Balancing Career and Parenthood During the podcast, Page also discussed the challenges of balancing her busy acting career with raising her family. Despite the years, her memories of working in Hollywood remain vivid—especially the more awkward moments
