In a recent interview with The New York Times, the American director revealed details about their meeting.
Referring to Robert, Christopher stated, “I knew you weren’t the person. “That was already cast in my head,” he said, adding, “I had always wanted to meet you.”
The Tenet director went on to praise Robert, stating, “I was a huge admirer of yours and therefore selfishly just wanted to take the meeting.”
“I was a little terrified of you, you know. “I’d heard all kinds of stories about how crazy you were,” he said.
He concluded by saying, “It was only a few years after the last of those stories that had come out about you.”
This comes after Robert Downey Jr. revealed in a recent Q&A at Los Angeles’ American Cinematheque theater that he was so’serious’ about the part that he even met “(Christopher) for tea.”
Nonetheless, he remembered, “I was like, ‘He doesn’t seem like he’s really in on this interview,'” before announcing that the role had gone to Cillian Murphy.
