ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) postponed the victory notifications of three Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) National Assembly candidates.
The order was made by a two-member bench of the IHC, consisting of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, against PML-N members Tariq Fazl Chaudhry, Anjum Aqeel, and Raja Khurram Nawaz.
According to unofficial NA-47 seat results, Chaudhry won with 102,502 votes; nevertheless, his victory was challenged by his competitor candidate.
Aqeel won the NA-46 constituency with 81,958 votes. However, Aamir Mughal, an independent candidate sponsored by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), challenged it.
The court also halted the notification of Raja Khurram Islamabad’s NA-48 constituency victory, which had been contested by PTI-backed candidate Ali Bukhari.
The elections are hampered by charges of cheating, which accelerated following former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha’s stunning statements regarding the alleged rigging that occurred under his watch.
Major political parties have asked for an impartial and judicial probe into the charges, and some have already taken to the streets to protest the election results.
