Cillian Murphy won Best Actor at the 96th Academy Awards for his outstanding performance in Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller Oppenheimer.
In his acceptance speech, the actor outperformed Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Colman Domingo (Rustin), and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction).
Murphy dedicated the award to all “peacemakers” while also thanking Nolan, Emma Thomas, and the rest of the film’s ensemble.
“Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, it’s been the wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively satisfying journey you’ve taken me on over the last 20 years,” he went on to say.
“I owe you more than I can express. Thank you very much to every single staff member and cast member.”To my fellow nominees: I am still in awe of you. Truly. I’d want to thank my amazing staff. “I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight,” Murphy added.
