Tens of thousands of locals and visitors have been forced to evacuate due to the wildfires that have been raging here for a week.

They are the main worry of the thousands of personnel and volunteers fighting them.

There is a persistent risk of flames starting again on their own when temperatures reach their high of about 40C.

Gironde Wildfires Force Villages to Empty

The one we are watching is brought under control after about twenty minutes, but then another one appears out of nowhere on the road.

An obviously agitated cop yells, “Leave now!” as he passes. The smoke is getting more aggressive and heavier. It’s time to go, indeed.

The extent of the fires devastating the southwest Gironde area of France is so great that it’s not always clear which way the smoke is coming from.

It just goes downhill as you head west from Bordeaux via uninhabited villages and barren highways.

Resident Stays Behind as Wildfire Spreads

The dried leaves and countless pinecones blanket the powder-like earth. It clarifies how the flames have spread so quickly.

In the center of a brown, parched lawn caused by the heat is a man wearing a dark blue polo shirt.

He displays a photo of himself sitting in the dark on his home’s roof. After telling his wife and daughter to go. Pierre Alexandre clarified that it was really taken in the afternoon.

Pierre Alexandre: Numerous green plants may be observed in the foreground. A skyline of modest dwellings surrounded by a massive cloud of smoke in the beautiful blue skies.

Last Friday, smoke was seen from Pierre Alexandre’s yard in Le Temple.

His desire to keep his house safe is understandable, but did he really think he and Clement could put out the flames by themselves?

Fire Volunteers Risk Lives Against Flames

“No, we’re not firefighters,” he said.

Controlling these flames is like watching a deadly game of “cat and mouse” or “whack-a-mole” for those who are. a containment rather than a cure surgery.

There is a volunteer army behind the experts. To either provide water or spray it themselves, they drive in the direction of the threat.

Standing next to a road, a man wearing a white t-shirt and a black baseball cap backwards on his head smiles at the camera.

Hugo is one of the volunteers that tries to put out the fires by driving.Hugo, 26, loaded his water tank with a defiant “If it’s too late, at least we tried.”

“Fifty thousand hectares has already been destroyed, what will we tell children?”

Locals Return to Fight France Wildfires

Which is dangerously close to the flames. It’s terrible; it’s our house, our area, our forest, our childhood home.

With soot all over her face, Maëlys, 23, said us, “I feel a lot of sadness.”

“As a nurse, I’m here to assist,” she said. According to Maëlys, her pals have large water tanks that they use to attempt to put out flare-ups to stop them from spreading.

“I work at the hospital and help out in the forest in the afternoon,” she remarked.
