The retired athlete posted a photo from his hospital bed on Monday, stating that “recovery sort of starts now” after being taken for treatment hours before the live news broadcast on Sunday night.
He went on to say: “After a pretty rough first night, I’m looking forward to getting everything sorted and sewn up so I can get back to normal.”
The 37-year-old was unable to dance with professional partner Vanessa James, leaving Made In Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire, journalist Adele Roberts, and soap actor Ryan Thomas to compete for the championship.
In the end, Thomas, 39, and his skating partner Amani Fancy won the 2024 series, and the former Coronation Street actor dedicated the trophy to Rutherford.
