Intriguing social media trends emerged in 2023, with Pakistanis spending a significant amount of time on YouTube watching a diverse range of content.
Since YouTube Shorts are short videos that are ideal for younger audiences who prefer entertainment and informational content, the introduction of these videos has played a significant role in keeping Pakistani viewers and content creators engaged on the well-known video-sharing platform.
Even with the daily average of 70 billion views for the short format, Pakistanis are still drawn to long-form material, as evidenced by the substantial screentime that numerous content creators receive.
Most notably, Yumna Zaidi and Wahaj Ali’s performance in Geo Television’s Tere Bin’s episode 57, which received a tonne of positive feedback and acclaim from Pakistani viewers, topped the list of the country’s most popular videos.
Google’s Regional Director for Pakistan, Farhan Qureshi, emphasized the dynamic significance of the top trending list by saying, “This year’s top trending lists reflect the cultural evolution in Pakistan, notably marked by a substantial rise in Shorts viewership and distinct fan bases forming around specific content categories such as music, dramas, and vlogs.”
The spokesperson went on to emphasize that content producers are using multi-format strategies to go into uncharted territories in terms of genres and viewership, and the platform expects the continued growth of multi-format content to yield a wider variety of engaging material than in the past.
According to YouTube data, on the other hand, content providers that were able to grab the interest of the Pakistani public are ZAMZAM ELECTRONICS TRADING and Ducky Bhai (actual name Saad ur Rehman).
On the other hand, a number of YouTube channels, including Sistrology, Maaz Safdar World, and Ijaz Ansari Food Secrets, were able to rank among the top creators.
With various Indian-origin songs, like Tere Vaaste, Kya Loge Tum, Zihaal e Miskin, and Bilal Saeed’s Udh Di Phiran, included in the top music videos seen by Pakistanis in 2023, the year also demonstrated that Pakistanis still have a particular place in their hearts for music.
