Pakistan’s left-arm bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is expected to pull out of the next edition of The Hundred, which is scheduled to start in England on July 23, according to reports of conversations with the Global T20 Canada, The Telegraph reported on Friday.
The same team that fielded Afridi for Welsh Fire in the 2023 edition kept him for the 2020 season in the £100,000 category, but the Pakistani bowler will not be playing in the tournament.
The source claims that Global T20 Canada is pursuing Shaheen for their next competition. The Global T20 league has a considerably shorter window than The Hundred, so even if both competitions are likely to collide, the left-arm pacer who chooses to play in Canada will have more time with his family.
The management is very concerned about Shaheen’s decision to skip the league since, in addition to being one of the world’s top pacers, the Pakistani is also one of the most recognizable and marketable players, and his absence would undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field.
Shaheen’s absence from The Hundred is nearly a given, thus it’s unclear if he will participate in Global T20 Canada.
