The most popular messaging program, Meta’s WhatsApp, is allegedly in the process of launching a new section that will house all incoming messages from third-party chats.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on adding the aforementioned feature to a later version of the iOS app. The most recent iOS beta release, which is accessible through the TestFlight app, reportedly made this revelation.
The update is being provided in order to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), a law that controls the actions of big IT corporations, especially those that are regarded as “gatekeepers” and have a big influence on the digital market.
One important component of the DMA, according to the WhatsApp news tracker, is that these businesses have to allow users to connect with each other across other apps.
Given its dominant position in the messaging sector, WhatsApp is listed as one of the businesses that will be governed by the DMA’s standards.
“One key benefit stemming from the DMA and WhatsApp’s efforts to comply is the introduction of interoperability.”
When someone uses WhatsApp, “interoperability” refers to their ability to interact with others via other messaging apps. This feature makes communication more inclusive and diverse and improves the user experience overall.
WABetaInfo cautioned that users will still be in charge of this function because Article 7 of the laws states that users must manually enable the interoperability service and have the option to opt out.In addition, interoperable messaging systems will need to maintain end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing a high degree of security for users participating in cross-platform communication.
