Due to the accusations, Donaldson resigned on Friday. He will be “strenuously contesting” all of the charges against him, it is said.
A statement from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) refuted “unhelpful speculation” about the case. Following receipt of the complaint, the force stated that it “immediately commenced an investigation into this matter.”.
On Thursday, March 28, Donaldson was taken into custody and charged. Regarding the same accusation, a 57-year-old lady was also accused of aiding and abetting offenses.
The force stated on Sunday that it is once more warning the public and media outlets that conjecture is useless, erroneous in this instance, and could potentially harm the criminal justice system.
