The joke that Simmons told during the August event that 2,000 people thought was the funniest was, “I was going to sail around the globe in the world’s smallest ship but I bottled it.”
After winning ten years after making his debut at the competition, Simmons expressed his happiness at the victory as “really chuffed”.
The Funniest Joke Of The Fringe award honors “the art of joke writing” and making people laugh, and its judging panel included some of the top comedians and comedy journalists in the UK.
During the Fringe, panelists saw hundreds of shows and kept an eye out for gags that made it.
Following that, 2,000 people participated in a public vote. Of the 15 jokes that made the shortlist, Simmons’ winning joke—which was taken from his PHB’s Free Fringe show at Liquid Room Annexe—was selected with 40% of the vote.
