In the Multan Test match against England, Pakistan amassed 200 runs for the loss of one wicket thanks to centuries from captain Shan Masood and fiftys from Abdullah Shafique.
After winning the toss, Pakistan decided to bat.
Despite an early breakthrough, only one wicket was taken in England’s opening session. With just eight runs on the board, Saim Ayub was the lone player to fall victim to a bowling error by Gus Atkinson.
The Pakistani opening pair proved extremely difficult to remove, even with captain Ollie Pope (standing in for the injured Ben Stokes) employing a variety of bowling options.
England’s closest opportunity to separate the pair came when a daring, non-existent run by Shafique to mid-on afforded Pope a shot at a run-out at the non-striker’s end, a chance he narrowly missed.
