The Foreign Office (FO) responded that the resolution on purported poll irregularities in Pakistan’s nationwide general election of 2024 “stems from an incomplete understanding of the political situation and electoral process in Pakistan,” which was passed by the US House of Representatives.
In response to questions from the media on Wednesday, FO spokesman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated, “Pakistan has taken note of the passage of the House Resolution 901 by the US House of Representatives on June 25.”
“We believe that this particular resolution’s timing and context do not align well with the positive dynamics of our bilateral ties, and that it is the result of an incomplete understanding of Pakistan’s political situation and electoral process,” the speaker stated.
Pakistan, she stated, is a proponent of positive communication and interaction built on respect and understanding amongst people.
By a resounding majority, the US House of Representatives earlier demonstrated its support for democracy and human rights in Pakistan by endorsing “House Resolution 901,” which called for an unbiased investigation into allegations of irregularities during the country’s general elections on February 8.
A “full and independent investigation of claims of interference or irregularities in Pakistan’s February 2024 election” was demanded by at least 368 members of the US house who supported the resolution. Approximately seven members cast no votes for it.
