Pennon Group buys Sutton East Surrey Water for £380m

Water regulator Ofwat stated in October that SES and other companies in the industry needed to produce a turnaround in financial performance. Following a string of issues, the industry is under pressure to enhance water quality and decrease leaks. The Competition and Markets Authority is yet to approve the agreement. Thames Water and Southern Water supply sewage treatment services to clients in Southern England, making SES one of the six water-only providers in England. The sale occurs in the face of mounting worries over the UK’s water sector, which has been charged with giving CEOs lavish incomes and benefits while failing to prevent serious leaks and contamination. In February 2023, the company’s Japanese owners, Sumitomo Corporation and Osaka Gas, listed it for sale.
