ISLAMABAD According to a Tuesday story in The News, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has expressed dissatisfaction over the party’s “arrow” electoral emblem not being offered to ticket holders in several Punjabi constituencies.
The PPP’s election monitoring cell chief, Taj Haider, wrote to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja to draw attention to the widespread practice in Punjab of refusing PPP Parliamentarians ticket holders the party’s election symbol and classifying them as independent candidates.
He wrote, “Please take note of our grave concerns regarding these denials.”
A declaration before the Returning Officer concerning his allegiance with a particular political party, if any, together with a certificate, is required by Section 66 of the Elections Act of 2017, according to Haider.”Providing proof that he is the party’s nominee from that constituency” was the last and sole prerequisite for “purchasing the assignment of a prescribed symbol.”
