The Board of Revenue Punjab has suggested in a brief given to the government that stamp charges be increased by two to ten times, according to sources cited by News on Friday.
Details show that a rise in stamp duties is expected to bring in an additional Rs4.21 billion for the Punjab government per year, according to sources.
According to reports, the revenue department has suggested raising the stamp duty on the sale of real estate from Rs 1,200 to Rs 3,000, while the charge for an affidavit has been proposed to be increased from Rs 100 to Rs 300.
Additionally, it has been suggested that the stamp tax on agreements up to Rs. 500,000 be reduced from Rs. 1200 to Rs. 300.
The Punjab government raised stamp duty by up to 10% in August of last year, burdening the general populace.
