Regarding SIC’s request for reserved seats, CJP states, “All issues would have been resolved if intra-party polls were held.”

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intra-party polls would have fixed all concerns, according to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa’s remarks on Tuesday.

The statements were made during a hearing on the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (a PTI ally) lawsuit challenging the denial of reserved seats for women and minorities by a 13-member bench of the entire court.

Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Munib Akhtar, Yahya Afridi, Aminuddin Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Ayesha Malik, Athar Minallah, Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Shahid Waheed, Irfan Saadat Khan, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan make up the bench, which is led by Chief Justice Isa.

In order to compete in the elections scheduled for February 8, the PTI teamed up with the SIC after the highest court upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to remove the party’s electoral emblem.

This, however, did not assist the party, as the electoral commission refused to grant the SIC reserved seats on the grounds that it had neglected to submit a list of candidates.

On the aforementioned matter, the party then approached the Peshawar High Court (PHC), which confirmed the election body’s ruling.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the head of the SIC, and the speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly filed the SC in April to have the PHC ruling overturned as well as the appointment of 67 women and 11 minority members to the assemblies.
