The prime minister will meet Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Vienna on Tuesday, following an announcement that the UK government will provide an additional £25 million to the National Crime Agency to combat people smuggling groups.
However, the primary goal of the trip is to encourage the adoption of third-country deportation methods, such as the government’s Rwanda proposal.
The leaders are anticipated to remark that such initiatives are “part of the solution for best protecting Europe from irregular migratory pressures and preventing people from making illegal, dangerous journeys”.
It comes as the overall number of persons who have crossed the Channel by small boat this year approaches 10,000.
