ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court granted bail to five individuals involved in the May 9 violence on Wednesday, stating that police are not arresting “real terrorists” but rather those who hold political demonstrations.
On May 9, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail delivered these statements while hearing bail requests for individuals believed to have vandalized and attacked state property.
Following Imran Khan’s detention in the Al-Qadir Trust case, protests erupted across the country, and some Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members and others were arrested.
A three-member court, led by Justice Mandokhail and consisting of Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Mussarat Hilali, heard the post-arrest bail request.
The Supreme Court allowed the bail in exchange for Rs50,000 surety bonds apiece. It further directed the trial court to render a verdict without being swayed.
The petitioners, Owais, Saifullah, Nasrullah, Kamran, and Waqas, were charged with violence and vandalism between May 9 and 10.
