The case, brought forward by accountant Jeremy Newman, represents potentially hundreds of estate agents. The claim seeks nearly £1.5 billion in damages. It alleges that Rightmove has taken advantage of its strong position in the online property market and charged unfair fees. The case has been filed with the Competition Appeal Tribunal, where the claims will be examined in detail. Allegations of Market Dominance The claim argues that Rightmove holds a dominant role in property listings. Because of this position, estate agents feel they have limited alternatives. Many continue using the platform, even though it is costly, because it generates a large share of their leads. Newman, a former Competition and Markets Authority panel member, says agents are being forced to reduce staff. This is because they cannot balance staffing costs with rising subscription fees. As a result, service quality may be affected. Rightmove Responds Rightmove has strongly rejected the allegations. The company says the claim has no merit and that it will defend its position. It also highlights the value it provides to both agents and consumers. According to Rightmove, its platform remains an important tool in the property market. However, they also admit that Rightmove continues to deliver a large number of leads. This creates a difficult situation.
