Deadly Shooting at Teotihuacán Pyramids
A tragic shooting at the ancient site of Teotihuacán has left a 32 year old Canadian woman dead and 13 others injured. The attack happened at one of Mexico’s most visited tourist landmarks.
Officials confirmed that the gunman opened fire on visitors before taking his own life. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
Panic Among Visitors
Witnesses described sudden chaos as gunshots echoed across the historic complex. People ran in different directions, trying to find safety. A British couple said the crowd panicked and pushed to escape at the same time.
Among the injured were people from different countries. Authorities reported that victims ranged in age from six to 61. A young boy was also hit in the leg during the incident.
Government Response and Investigation
Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed deep sorrow and offered support to the victims and their families. She confirmed that a full investigation is underway and instructed security officials to provide all necessary help.
Police recovered a firearm, a knife, and ammunition from the scene. Investigators identified the attacker as Julio César Jasso Ramírez, a Mexican national. Officials have not yet shared further details about his motive.
International Reaction
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney offered condolences to the victim’s family. He described the situation as tragic and confirmed that Canada is working closely with Mexican authorities.
Officials also stated that foreign nationals were among the injured, including individuals from Colombia, Russia, and Canada.

The attack comes just weeks before matches of the FIFA World Cup are set to take place in Mexico City. This has raised fresh concerns about security at major tourist and public locations.
