Alberta’s ethics commissioner has ended an investigation into the revocation of Dr. Deena Hinshaw’s job offer with an Indigenous health team at Alberta Health Services this summer.
Ethics Commissioner Marguerite Trussler has announced her decision to conclude her investigation in a letter to Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, which CBC News has obtained.
The 18 December letter says that the investigation was directed at the former AHS administrator, Dr. John Cowell. It is addressed to LaGrange.
“Although he had input on the decision, I found no evidence that Dr. Cowell directed the termination of Dr. Hinshaw’s employment,” writes Trussler. “The evidence showed that Dr. Hinshaw’s employment was terminated through proper process [sic].”
According to Trussler, Premier Danielle Smith was also the target of complaints about the same issue.
“But, considering the information in Dr. Cowell’s investigation, I decided not to look into the Premier.”
