The Irish Independent reported on Sunday that the Irish artist’s first husband, John Reynolds, registered her death certificate last week, revealing the cause of death.
It happens a year after the 56-year-old’s southeast London home was discovered to be lifeless.
“Exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection” was the cause of death listed on the musician and activist’s death certificate.
Julian Morris, the chief coroner for Inner South London, certified the death after a coroner declared in January that O’Connor had passed away naturally and that there would be no more inquiries into her death.
She said that she was wrapping up an album that would be out early in the upcoming year and that she would be starting a global tour that would take her to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the US.
O’Connor’s most well-known song from 1990 is Nothing Compares 2 U, a Prince cover that helped launch her into stardom thanks in part to the song’s memorable music video.
