KARACHI: Governor Kamran Tessori asked Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to declare the Punjab government-like relief in energy prices on Sunday, fearing a “sense of despair” among the people of Sindh.
President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, stated two days ago that Punjabi citizens will receive a two-month reprieve from electricity subsidies. The relief would be available to customers who use up to 500 units in the August and September bills.
The action sparked condemnation from neighboring provinces, with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) criticizing the “use of provincial cards” in matters pertaining to energy.
