RAWALPINDI: On the evening of February 5 and 6, the security forces killed two terrorists, including a ring commander, in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhunkhwa, the military’s media arm announced on Tuesday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reports that during an intelligence-driven operation based on the alleged presence of terrorists, the forces shot and killed Ayubullah, also known as Mansoor, the leader of the ring, and another individual.

“During the conduct of operation, intense fire exchange took place between own troops and terrorists as a result of which two terrorists were sent to hell including Terrorist ring leader Ayubullah @Mansoor,” the statement continued.

According to the ISPR, it also found guns, ammo, and explosives from the terrorists who were dead but were still actively engaged in a number of terrorist-related activities, consisting of kidnapping innocent bystanders, extortion, and target killing.

The military’s propaganda wing stated, “A sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.”

The military continued by saying that the people of the area valued their assistance in keeping the district safe and secure, especially the IBO, and that they fully supported efforts to eradicate the threat posed by terrorism.

With Pakistan gearing up for pivotal general elections on February 8, growing concerns about the state of law and order across the nation remain, especially in KP and Balochistan, where the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has labeled multiple polling places as sensitive.

A late-night attack on a police station in the Dera Ismail Khan area of KP resulted in the martyrdom of at least ten policemen and the injuries of six more.

Since the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan in 2021, there has been a sharp increase in attacks on Pakistani provinces bordering that country.

Islamabad asserts that Kabul provides sanctuary to extremist groups with ties to the TTP, enabling them to launch attacks on its territory without repercussions.

The areas most impacted by terrorism include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, and Tank; places touched by terror include Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan, according to figures released by the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs KP.
