In a fresh move to tighten pressure on Tehran, the United States has imposed sanctions on 32 individuals and entities linked to Iran’s ballistic missile and drone production. These targets span several countries, including Iran, the UAE, Turkey, China, Hong Kong, India, Germany, and Ukraine, according to a statement by the US Treasury Department.
Washington says these networks pose a direct threat to US and allied forces in the Middle East and to commercial shipping in the Red Sea, where Iranian-backed activities have intensified.
The latest action is part of America’s ongoing “maximum pressure” campaign aimed at restricting Iran’s uranium enrichment and regional influence, particularly through groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon. Despite heavy Western sanctions, officials allege that Iran funneled around $1 billion to Hezbollah in 2025, sustaining its militant activities.
Earlier this month, the US also targeted individuals accused of funding Hezbollah through illicit money exchanges. Meanwhile, Iran has turned to China, Russia, and regional allies like the UAE to offset economic isolation since nuclear negotiations collapsed in September.
Western nations continue to accuse Tehran of pursuing nuclear weapons capability under the guise of civilian energy, while Iran maintains its program is purely for peaceful purposes amid fears of hyperinflation and a deepening economic crisis.
