Following a ship collision with a pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, there are fears of widespread casualties.

According to US media reports, the Patapsco River, where the bridge is located, is said to have been the site of at least seven falls.

Synergy Marine Group verified shortly after the collision that the container ship “Dali,” flying the Singapore flag, had struck the bridge’s pillar, according to Reuters.

“Whilst the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined, the ‘Dali’ has now mobilised its Qualified Individual Incident response service,” the business stated.

It further stated that every crew member was present and unharmed.

Social media footage revealed that the bridge gave way when the ship struck it on its way to Colombo, Sri Lanaka.

Following the collision, smoke and flames shot from the ship.

The number of cars that plunged into the sea is yet unknown, but a tractor-trailer was on the bridge when it collapsed, according to News.

Transportation chiefs announced in a statement that traffic has been halted on the bridge. “I can confirm that at 1:35 , Baltimore City police were notified of a partial bridge collapse, with workers possibly in the water, at the Francis Scott Key Bridge,” a police officer stated.
