How Sam Kerr’s ACL tear allows her to resume her amazing career

With her fist up in the air and the back of England's net still rippling, she was seen sprinting towards the boisterous fans at Stadium Australia while goalie Mary Earps glared up at the sky. In the Women's World Cup semifinal, Sam Kerr's long-range goal tied the Matildas with the European Champions, marking one of the greatest and most significant goals of her career. Nevertheless, Kerr's goal seemed even more important than all of that when it sliced through the collective breath of millions and penetrated the top corner. Due to all that had transpired in the days preceding the first game, including the calf injury she sustained the day before, the minute-by-minute observation.

After losing in qualifying and not getting a wildcard, Arina Rodionova has decided not to play in the Australian Open.

The top-ranked female tennis player in Australia believes Tennis Australia will be celebrating not giving her a wildcard, which has prevented her from competing in the Australian Open. Grand Slam events reserve wildcards for players who are not ranked highly enough to automatically advance to the 128-player singles field; instead, they are given a spot in the main draw by a selection panel. It is frequently utilized to offer young, emerging stars or veterans who have fallen in the rankings a taste of elite competition in front of home supporters. Australia's top woman on the rankings is Arina Rodionova, a Russian-born individual ranked 105th in the world; however, Kimberly Birrell (117), Olivia Gadecki (121), and Daria Saville (195)

Following a COVID-19 halt, the Black Nazarene monument is surrounded by sizable throngs of Filipino Catholics.

In one of the largest religious devotional events in history, hundreds of thousands of Catholic devotees flocked to a historic statue of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, turning the capital of the Philippines into a sea of maroon. Before dawn, there were tumultuous scenes as the frenetic march began, following an outdoor mass for the so-called Black Nazarene statue at a Manila beachfront park. Police estimated the number of people in the crowd at above 830,000 early in the morning, not counting those who were waiting further down the 6-kilometer path of the march. Touching the symbol or the ropes linked to its float, according to many Filipinos, can cure previously incurable illnesses and bring good fortune to them and their loved ones. The icon is thought to possess amazing healing properties.

Apes recognize friends they haven’t seen for decades, new research finds

Recent research has shown that apes possess the longest-lasting social memory ever observed in a non-human species: the ability to identify long-lost friends. According to a study published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers discovered that bonobos and chimpanzees could identify photographs of their former group members even after they had not seen them in person for more than 25 years. Old friends' photos elicited an even stronger reaction. The study was motivated by senior author Christopher Krupenye's experience working with apes and noticing that they remembered him even years after their last encounter. Krupenye is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University who specializes in animal cognition. Krupenye and lead author Laura Lewis, a biological scientist, set out to test this.

Megalosaurus, the fossil that introduced dinosaurs to the world

Both physically and conceptually, dinosaurs are all around us. Even though the majority of these varied animals became extinct 66 million years ago, the prehistoric forebears of contemporary birds continue to be fascinating to scientists and popular culture. In animated series, colorful dinosaurs frolic around, while in "Jurassic Park," their more realistic counterparts present a terrifying "what if" scenario for life alongside the enormous animals. Every year, paleontologists discover scores of dinosaur species that were previously undiscovered, expanding our understanding of the prehistoric world. When trying to imagine long-extinct species by assembling their bones, scientists don't always get it right the first time. However, consider living in an era just 200 years ago  Dino-mite! When massive fossilized bones were…
