According to Starbucks Workers United, the walkouts started on Friday at locations in Seattle, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Unless an agreement is reached, the union further stated that the strike action would extend daily and reach hundreds more establishments by Christmas Eve.
It comes after the union demanded that the massive coffee shop chain improve employee schedules and increase staffing and pay.
“We are prepared to carry on negotiating in order to get to an agreement. Following the news of the strike, a Starbucks representative stated, “We need the union to get back to the table.”
Since Workers United began attempting to negotiate a contract with the corporation more than two years ago, this strike is the largest action the organization has taken.
Members have been joining the union.
