Lucy Davis, who portrayed Dawn Tinsley in the first season of The Office in the United Kingdom, has disclosed that her breast cancer is “incurable”.
From 2001 until 2003, Davis, the daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, played the role of the office receptionist in the ground-breaking sitcom.
“I wanted to share with you all that I’ve kept to myself for a while but for various reasons would like to share now,” the 53-year-old actress said in a Tuesday Instagram post.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer a year and a half ago. It has already spread to my bones. Particularly to my ribs, right hip, and spine. The malignancy is incurable, and chemotherapy is too late.”
“The first lump I felt wasn’t a ‘lump’ per se, but rather a kind of hard spot,” she continued. Very small.
I nearly didn’t bother to get it examined. I suppose what I’m saying is to check things out and not overlook anything.Right now, I’m attempting to make the most of whatever time I have left in my life.
I always try to look for the lessons that may be learned from everything bad that occurs. And in that sense, cancer has not let me down; I am thankful for the many lessons I have learned from it.
“I’m not afraid of whatever comes next,” she said. I’m content with it. I’ll get to visit my [deceased dog] Gracie sooner rather than later.
Lucy Davis plans to continue acting despite cancer diagnosis
In Ricky Gervais’s iconic TV comedy, which marked its 25th anniversary this month, Davis, a native of Birmingham, portrayed the empathetic and humorous receptionist Dawn. Who was also Tim Canterbury’s love interest (Martin Freeman).
Following The Office, Davis appeared as Dianne in the comedy-horror film Shaun of the Dead (2004), Etta Candy in Wonder Woman (2017). Hilda Spellman in the Netflix series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
She added that she planned to keep up in her Instagram post, which included a video of her reciting a poem while ringing a bell in the hospital.
