The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and more than 210 medical and health organisations have opposed President Donald Trump’s new childhood vaccine executive order. They warn that the proposed changes could leave children less protected against preventable diseases.

The groups say the order lacks sufficient scientific evidence. They also express concern about confusion among parents as measles cases rise across the United States.

Quick Facts

What happened More than 210 medical and health organisations opposed a new childhood vaccine executive order.
Who is involved The American Academy of Pediatrics, medical groups, public health organisations, scientists and patient advocacy groups.
What the order proposes Reducing routine childhood vaccine recommendations from 18 diseases to 11.
MMR proposal The order calls for separate measles, mumps and rubella vaccines.
Current AAP position The AAP continues to recommend vaccination against 18 diseases under its 2026 immunisation schedule.
Measles situation The AAP says measles cases in the United States have reached a 35 year high.
Current status The executive order does not automatically change federal vaccine policy.
What happens next A federal task force has been directed to review vaccine timing, safety monitoring and other issues within 90 days.

Health Groups Oppose Childhood Vaccine Order

The AAP has joined forces with over 210 medical, scientific, and patient advocacy organizations to fight Trump’s executive order on kid vaccines. They contend that the suggested modifications are unsupported by science and may cause families to become unsure.

The American Medical Association, the Autism Science Foundation, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Public Health Association are among the organizations.

The organizations called on federal health officials to offer precise, evidence-based immunization recommendations in their joint statement. Additionally, they cautioned that modifications to current guidelines would erode public trust in children vaccinations.

Trump’s Order Proposes Fewer Childhood Vaccines

The AAP’s 2026 immunization schedule covers 18 illnesses, whereas Trump’s executive order calls for regular childhood vaccination against 11.

Health officials would save certain immunizations for youngsters who are more vulnerable under the suggested strategy. Families and medical experts would collaborate to make clinical decisions on other vaccines.

Nonetheless, the American Academy of Pediatrics still advises avoiding all 18 disorders. Its timetable is based on continual vaccination safety monitoring and decades of study. More than 200 organizations have shown support, and twelve significant medical and healthcare organizations have officially backed it.

Separate MMR Vaccines Raise Concerns

The executive order also calls for separate measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccines instead of the combined vaccine. It also recommends administering childhood vaccines at separate medical visits whenever feasible.

However, health experts have raised concerns about these proposals. Individual measles, mumps and rubella vaccines have not been available in the United States since manufacturers phased them out in 2009.

Reintroducing separate vaccines could take years. It could also require additional medical visits and delay children’s protection against preventable diseases.

Executive Order and Its Legal Implications

The federal executive vaccination policy does not immediately vaccine policy does not automatically vaccine policy. Federal authorities, however, expect that each state will implement their suggestions.

The plans are similar to previous actions that were stopped in March by a federal court. The administration is still being sued by the AAP.

Additionally, state laws that do not grant religious exemptions from vaccine obligations must be addressed by the attorney general, according to the directive.

Autism Claims and Vaccine Safety

The executive order does not mention autism. However, during his order announcement, Trump connected immunizations to autism.

These claims were rejected by health-care organizations. They cited scores of studies covering millions of people that showed no relationship between vaccinations and autism.

The groups also emphasized that repeating unproven assertions can detract from autism research and the needs of affected families.

AAP Opposes Trump Vaccine Order

The AAP and more than 210 health organisations have raised concerns about Trump’s childhood vaccine executive order. They say the proposed changes lack adequate scientific support and could create confusion for families.

As measles cases rise, the organisations continue to call for clear vaccine guidance based on scientific research. They also encourage parents to seek advice from their children’s healthcare professionals.
