The Bridget Jones franchise was just defended by Renee Zellweger.
She actually told The Sun that she finds her on-screen title character relatable, despite critics saying the show depicts “toxic” s**ism, ageism, and anti-fat bigotry.
“I don’t find it toxic, in my opinion,” the 55-year-old actress stated while promoting the fourth installment of the hugely successful Bridget Jones series, Mad About the Boy.
“Bridget Jones has my heart. She continued, “I’ve always loved Bridget Jones, and every time we get together, my love for her grows.”
Zellweger went on to say that Bridget’s weight fixation was a reflection of more general problems than weight-shaming.
“I never thought there was anything wrong with her,” noted the Judy star.
