Inaugurating a key railway to the mountainous area, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for the first time since a clash between India and Pakistan last month, his office announced on Wednesday.
Since gaining independence from British rule in 1947, India and Pakistan have been at odds over the Muslim-majority Himalayan territory of occupied Kashmir.
The Chenab Bridge, a 1,315-meter steel and concrete span that spans two mountains with an arch 359 meters above the river below, will be opened by Modi during his visit on Friday.
