With the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) choosing not to participate and the Karachi and Lahore Chambers of Commerce confirming their involvement, Pakistan’s business community was sharply split on Friday over a proposed statewide shutter-down strike.
Javed Balwani, president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), has declared a one-day statewide shutter-down strike for Saturday during a news conference. Balwani stated, “This will be the first phase of protest,” hinting that if their demands are not met, the strike may intensify.
He disclosed that despite fruitful discussions with Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar’s Special Assistant, a lack of official documentation prevented a consensus from being achieved.
