Google has started implementing AI-generated summaries in its Discover feed as worries about declining website traffic grow in the worldwide publication business.
The feature, which is currently available to some US users on iOS and Android, substitutes an AI summary with the logos of many news sources for the conventional story headlines.
Google claims that the purpose of these summaries is to assist readers in selecting which articles to click on. Industry watchers counter that they might discourage visitors from clicking through altogether.
Speaking to TechCrunch, a Google representative affirmed that the deployment is a real launch rather than a test.
