The horrific murder of Sana Yousaf in Islamabad on the eve of her seventeenth birthday was denounced by First Lady and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday.
Aseefa offered her sympathies to Sana’s family, the Chitral community, and everyone mourning this needless loss, calling it a sobering reminder of the brutality women and girls endure just for standing up for their rights.
The first lady remarked, “Sana was just a girl — with ambition, with dreams, with a life ahead of her.” She was perfectly entitled to a free and secure life. She was punished for saying no, and what happened to her was more than just an act of violence. And we should all be appalled by that.
