The police’s request to administer polygraph and photogrammetric tests to Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in 12 cases pertaining to the May 9 riots was denied by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore.
Subsequent to the vandalism, the PTI founder was arrested on the same date in 2023, a time when accused party members used violence across the nation.
Following attacks on public property, including military installations, during the violent protests, the military and civil authorities decided to try the rioters under the Army Act.
The ATC judge rejected the prosecution’s new plea, stating that although the court had twice given the police authorization, the accused had not been subjected to polygraph and photogrammetric testing.
