PARIS: Carlos Alcaraz fought from the end to defeat first seed Jannik Sinner 4-6 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(3) 7-6(10-2) in a historic French Open final on Sunday to keep his title and solidify his place as the “Prince of Clay” in the post-Rafa Nadal era at Roland Garros.
Alcaraz, 22, ended Sinner’s 20-match winning streak at the majors and continued his dominance against the Italian with his sixth consecutive triumph in a thrilling match between the torch-bearers of a new generation. Alcaraz saved three match points in the fourth set.
The longest Roland Garros final, which lasted five hours and 29 minutes, was won by Alcaraz, displaying his iron will.
