WASHINGTON: Like he did with India, US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose fresh taxes on China if it continues to purchase oil from Russia.
The US president told reporters Thursday that additional trade sanctions “may happen,” but he provided no specifics.
Shortly after Putin accused India of aiding Russia by continuing to purchase its oil, he levied additional 25% tariffs on Indian imports. As Washington seeks to increase pressure on nations that trade with Moscow during the conflict in Ukraine, China may now be the next in line.
Trump told reporters, “Could happen,” after he had stated that he anticipated announcing further secondary penalties to put pressure on Russia to halt its aggression in Ukraine.
