WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump’s unexpected 50% tariff on Indian goods due to Russian oil deals has been praised by US Senator Lindsey Graham as a daring move and a watershed in the global effort to limit Moscow’s capacity to fund its war machine.
The Republican senator said in a social media post on Thursday that the tax, which targeted money that supports Russia’s military machine, was a “defining moment” in the fight.
The US lawmaker made this statement in response to US President Donald Trump’s executive order that drastically increased tensions between the two nations after trade discussions broke down by placing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing New Delhi’s ongoing imports of Russian oil.
