According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke over the phone Thursday, denouncing Israel’s strikes on Iran and agreeing that de-escalation was necessary.
According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, both men “strongly condemn Israel’s actions, which violate the U.N. Charter and other norms of international law,” as reported by reporters.

“Both Beijing and Moscow firmly think that the existing state of affairs and the problems surrounding Iran’s nuclear program cannot be resolved militarily.
“This solution must be achieved exclusively through political and diplomatic means,” Ushakov stated.
