WASHINGTON: More than 100 individuals, businesses, and boats connected to Iran will be subject to new sanctions issued by the US that target the country’s shipping sector.
The action is a part of President Donald Trump’s effort to put further pressure on Tehran, particularly in the wake of June airstrikes on its nuclear facilities.
The goal, according to US officials, is to prevent Iran from selling oil and to cut off funding that they believe supports the regime.
The son of Ali Shamkhani, who serves as an advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, has his maritime interests primarily targeted by the sanctions.
