The government has been urged by the GSMA to take concrete measures to facilitate digital access and telecom investment.
Julian Gorman, the head of GSMA Asia-Pacific, described Pakistan’s Minister of Information Technology Shaza Fatima’s absence from the Digital Nation Conference in Islamabad as “regrettable” during a press conference during the event. Gorman promised to speak with the minister directly.
Although he praised Pakistan’s freelancers for their rising contribution to the global IT industry, he pointed out that the nation still has the least amount of mobile internet penetration in the region.
He noted that supply of spectrum is still lagging despite local demand. Mr. Gorman emphasized that the Digital Pakistan initiative’s objectives cannot be met without a spectrum auction.
