With Prime Minister-elect Shehbaz Sharif set to take the oath of office and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) expected to announce its cabinet soon, sources say the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has agreed to appoint Senator Ishaq Dar as the country’s finance minister, The News reported on Monday.
The move comes in the wake of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s diatribe during the party’s election campaign leading up to the February 8 polls, in which he repeatedly chastised Dar for mismanaging the economy during the PML-N-led Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) administration.
In January, while speaking on Geo News’ show “Naya Pakistan”, Bilawal claimed that his party would see “anyone but Dar” taking charge as the country’s financial czar in light of the prevailing economic crises
In response to the PPP chairman’s statements, the PML-N stalwart stated, “He [Bilawal] is like my child.” I don’t want to respond [to what he said].
“This is the same Bilawal who on the floor [of the parliament] a few months ago used to say that for him, I’m Dar uncle,” he went on to say.
