Gene Wilder’s widow, Karen Boyer, recalled what her late husband stated in his final moments before passing away in August of 2016.
A recent documentary titled “Remembering Gene Wilder” examined the actor’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and the closing stages of his life.
In the movie, Boyer reminisced about spending time with Gene listening to Ella Fitzgerald’s timeless hit, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” prior to his final speech.
Author claims that Gene Wilder preferred to be remembered for “Young Frankenstein” rather than “Willy Wonka.” “I was lying next to him in bed, and he sat up, saying, ‘I trust you,'” she recalled, citing People magazine. “The music was playing in the background—Elizabeth Fitzgerald was singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,'” she recalled.
