Additionally, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) stated that profanity with overtly sexual or misogynistic overtones would need a higher classification.
The organization did, however, state that it would continue to uphold its current rules for other substances while taking a “less restrictive” stance toward future depictions of cannabis usage.
It happens after BBFC research from 2019 revealed that individuals were worried about the “level of sexual detail, nudity and the duration of the sex scenes” in movies that were graded 12A/12 according to the organization’s prior rules.
The organization, which assigns ratings to UK Netflix series, theatrical releases, and hard copy versions of movies and TV shows, announced that going forward, it will adopt a more “cautious” stance.
According to the news, “similar content is now more likely to be rated 15.”
“However, the research also indicates that audiences are happy for classification to be more lenient towards some sex references at the 15/18 borderline, especially in comic contexts.”
