In the Ohio GOP Senate primary on Tuesday night, businessman Bernie Moreno, sponsored by President Trump, advanced, securing a rematch with Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown. The contest is anticipated to center on Brown’s endorsement of President Biden and Democratic worries about the MAGA agenda.
After running on his outsider status and former President Trump’s endorsement in a state that Trump won by eight points in 2020 and that political observers believe is one of the GOP’s best chances to nudge closer to regaining control of the U.S. Senate, Moreno defeated his two Republican opponents on Tuesday.
Moreno, Trump, and their allies hinted in the days before the election that they would target the idea that Brown is a “moderate” and contend that he is actually a stooge for Biden.
At an event in the Dayton region over the weekend, Trump addressed Moreno fans, saying, “Ohio needs to defeat your horrendous radical left, Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown, who pretends he’s my best friend.” “Once he gets in, he acts like my closest friend, but after that, he always leans radical left.
