With Vanity Fair, the Oscar-winning actress revealed that her first pregnancy “didn’t work out” and that “I was doing a play and I had to give birth on stage every night.”
The 41-year-old actress was discussing her one-woman role as a pregnant pilot in the off-Broadway production Grounded.
She had to pretend to give birth every night for the duration of the six-week run, and it was at that time that she miscarried.
She claims she “pretended everything was fine” during the performance and that she shared this information with friends who came to visit her backstage because “it was too much to keep it in”.
Since then, Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman have welcomed two sons into their family.
In an Instagram post from July 2019, she revealed that she was pregnant again, but she also talked about her previous infertility issues after giving birth to Jonathan in March 2016.
