ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, President Asif Ali Zardari will give the opening speech to both chambers of parliament, marking the beginning of the parliamentary year following the general elections on February 8.
President Zardari called the meeting in accordance with Articles 54(1) and 56(3) of the Constitution. He will speak at the Article 56(3) joint session, which starts at 4 p.m.
The joint session that was originally set for April 16 has been rescheduled for April 18. Thus, the April 16 joint parliamentary session announcement is canceled.
It should be emphasized that this will be the nation’s first joint session when the new legislative year begins, with members of both the upper and lower houses having been elected according to the constitution.
Arif Alvi, the outgoing president, was unable to call a joint session since the Senate elections had not yet taken place, even though polls were scheduled for February 8.
